Things You Should Do At Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville Ocho Rios
My family and I recently went on our annual excursion. A few years ago we decided to take a day trip to a different location each year in celebration of my sister and brother's birthday. More often than not it's a beach trip as there is just something about the crystal clear waters of the Caribbean Sea that pulls us in, plus it's summer so why not? This year was no exception and our adventure took us to Margaritaville in Ocho Rios.
Margaritaville Ocho Rios is one of the locations of the franchise created by musician and business tycoon Jimmy Buffett. It is located across from the Ocho Rios Bay Beach in Island Village. This wasn't my first time at Margaritaville in Ocho Rios and so far I am happy to announce that it hasn't disappointed. The overall vibe is perfect for children and adults alike. It is the ideal spot if you want to relax or just let loose with friends. My family and I had an amazing time and so I wanted to share some things you could do so you too can have an amazing time if you decide to stop by.
1. Try the food
Whether you just eat food for eating's sake or you are a true foodie, the food at Margaritaville will not disappoint. While it might not be viewed as an authentic Jamaican spot this beachfront bar and grill offers a wide variety of flavours including some Caribbean and American favourites. From juicy cheeseburgers (my favourite) and sumptuous seafood to extremely appetizing salads, you will have a variety of options. I confess that the food is relatively expensive, however, for the most part, it is worth it.
2. Take the 'Trouble in Paradise' challenge
If you've always wanted to test your competitive eating skills this is the challenge for you. The 'Trouble in Paradise' challenge requires you to complete their quadruple patty Cheeseburger in Paradise, fries and pickle in less than 8 minutes. I would never attempt this challenge, mainly because I believe cheeseburgers should be savoured and racing to finish it wouldn't allow me that pleasure and also because I would lose...sigh! I had the opportunity to see two guests take on the challenge. They both lost, unfortunately, but it was fun to watch.
3. Have a drink at the bar
After enjoying a scrumptious meal, you will want to wash it down with a drink from the bar. The bar at Margaritaville Ocho Rios offers a mixture of beverages including cocktails, margaritas, daiquiris and beer. You also have the option of requesting the non-alcoholic version of some mixed drinks so the kids can enjoy them too. There are in-pool seats available for your convenience if you want to have your drink while lounging in the pool.
4. Hit the beach
Do I really need to tell you this? Maybe I'm biased because I am a water lover but I don't think it is possible to visit Margaritaville Ocho Rios and not go on the beach. Even if you don't go for a swim, the crystal clear water and powdery white sand are the perfect backdrop for photos. If you choose to dine you can access the beach without charge. In order to access the beach without dining you are charged a fee.
Once on the beach, you can relax on the sand with a drink in your hand making use of their beach chairs and umbrellas which are available to you for a fee. There are also water trampolines for your bouncing pleasure. They are sometimes a little way out so you may have trouble getting to them if you are not an experienced swimmer. The water is gentle and is safe for swimmers and non-swimmers. The temperature may also fluctuate as there is a river or stream nearby which empties into the sea.
5. Go for a dip in the pool
Margaritaville Ocho Rios has a swimming pool. It's not very big and the deepest part, which is the centre, is about 8ft. You can go for a swim or just wade in the pool if you are not a fan of the salty seawater. It's also a major splash zone since that's where the waterslide spits you out. It does get crowded and can be noisy at times but you'll be having too much fun to notice.
6. Ride the 60-foot waterslide
Towering above the bar is a 60ft water slide. If you are a thrill seeker you will enjoy riding the waterslide. I definitely recommend giving it a try at least once. They also facilitate non-swimmers who want to experience the rush by providing life jackets.
7. Enjoy live entertainment
There is always a great vibe at Margaritaville. You will hear music from all genres but know that it will be something you can dance to. On some occasions, the staff will entertain guests with certain fun activities such as dance competitions and games to keep them engaged. It is said that music brings people together and that is exactly what happens at Margaritaville Ocho Rios.
8. Get the ultimate nightclub experience
If you happen to be there on a Monday, Wednesday or Saturday night you will get to witness Margaritaville Ocho Rios' transformation into a nightclub 'Club Ville'. The nightclub goes from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. I'm yet to experience the nightclub but they are said to have themed club nights which feature popular DJs. I imagine that if the night is anything like the day it too will be an amazing experience.
9. Treat yourself to some retail therapy
Margaritaville Ocho Rios has a retail store. Here you can purchase Margaritaville merchandise and memorabilia for yourself or as gifts. Their wares include t-shirts, hats, mugs and other items.
Margaritaville Ocho Rios aims to ensure that their guests have the 'Best. Day. Ever'. They also offer packages for special group events. The staff at this location are friendly and the customer service is excellent. The food preparation time may be slow on busy days which is understandable but the overall experience is great.
Let me know in the comments below if you've ever been to Margaritaville. Thanks for reading.
See you next post!

Now, I need to add Margaritaville to my things to do next time I’m home. When I came abroad for school, it was just gaining popularity and I just assumed it was only a club, which is not really my thing. Good to know it has layers.
Lol it certainly does and you won’t be disappointed
This looks like so much fun! Makes me want to travel! Can’t wait til I can! 😊
It was a lot of fun. I know that feeling all too well. My country has gradually opened up, however, I’m still a little scared of venturing anywhere at the moment.
I love the photos! Hope we could all enjoy things like these again! 🙂
Thank you, I hope so too
This sounds like so much fun! I could use a beach vacation right about now!
It is! We could all use that vacation lol
I’ve had mixed experiences with the service at Margaritaville restaurants. But my most recent visit- to the location in Falmouth, Jamaica- was a positive one overall and Margaritaville is a place we always visit now, everywhere we go, if a location is near
It’s so good that you’ve visited Jamaica. Surprisingly I haven’t been to the one in Falmouth but I bet it was great.
I’ve been to a Margaritaville restaurant in Florida but this place looks so beautiful and fun! Margaritaville is a fun experience but to have one right at the beach like that would be so much fun!
It was awesome. You should add it to your bucketlist.

Thank you so much and I’m encouraging you to add it to your bucket list.
Okay, some great info about more places in Jamaica. But where is the jerk chicken sis? 🤣🤣
Lol it’s on the menu but if you want to experience the authentic Jamaican Jerk Chicken, Boston Jerk Centre in Portland is the place to go.
I really want to go here now it looks amazing!
You should go, you will have a great time.
I loved this post! My husband and I have been here once, years ago. Reading this brought back all of our great memories!! Thanks so much for sharing!

I’ve been to a couple of Margaritavilles, but none that had a beach, pool, and water slide! How much fun that must be! It looks like you spent the perfect tropical day. Salt! Salt! Salt!
We definitely did, it was awesome.
I have been waiting to hear a review of one of these places. I would love to check it out, in fact, I may just move to one of his retirement villages when the time comes. It is the best way of life:) Looks like tons of fun.
I didn’t even know he built retirement villages. It really is fun. Thank you for reading!
I want to go – esp. now! All sounds so fun and relaxing!! Perfect vacation guide!
Believe me it is, I had a great time.
I love Margaritaville! I haven’t been to this one yet but if I make it Hat way it will be one of the stops planned
That sounds like a good idea.
Fun! I’m a Margaritaville fan, but I’ve never been to this location. It looks like there is plenty to do there!
There really is. You should check it out if you can.
I’d love to enjoy some of those drinks right about now! That cheeseburger challenge sounds too hard for me – I think I would feel sick eating it that fast!
Lol, I know how you feel. It would be an epic fail for me.😂
I was at the Turks and Caicos location on my last cruise. I was injured so I wasn’t able to enjoy it as much. Next year I will be at Ocho Rios, so hopefully, I can do some of the stuff you listed.
Hi Sandra thanks for reading. Let me know how it goes if you do.
This looks awesome. We’re planning a trip to Jamaica next spring and we hadn’t considered Margaritaville but after seeing this I am going to check it out. It looks super family friendly!
