Fun and Unconventional Date Ideas for Jamaicans

A dinner or movie date will forever be a classic as far as dates go. However, whether you just started dating or have been together for a while there's always room for some excitement in your dating life. It's always a good idea to try new things. There are many activities you wouldn't consider for a date but they are more fun when you do them with a partner. Dating is already hard so why not make it more enjoyable. In today's post, I'm sharing a few unconventional date ideas that are also available to Jamaicans.

Hiking

One thing to note about an unconventional date is that they usually involve some form of physical activity. A hike is as physical as it gets. This date might not be for the faint of heart. Hiking is ideal for nature lovers. Even if you are not a fan of nature, I would still recommend you try it at least once. Jamaica has several scenic trails for hiking. Whether you are trying to catch a glimpse of the magnificent sunrise from the Blue Mountain peak or hiking to a hidden waterfall, the outcome can be quite rewarding. Throw in some camping gear and you will also have the chance to spend a night sleeping under the stars. This experience is worth sharing with a loved one. You can take your camera to capture nature in all its glory or leave the devices behind to unplug and enjoy being in the moment with your person.

Go to a Gaming Lounge

Release your inner child and have fun playing video games at an arcade. You can get competitive and challenge each other or team up against others. With the recent rise of virtual reality gaming in Jamaica, your date will be even more immersive giving you a heightened experience. I've seen tons of videos showcasing the amusing reactions of people playing VR games so I am sure this date will be both hilarious and memorable. Some gaming lounges also have dining facilities so you can eat, drink and play.

Take a Class Together

This is a guaranteed way to spend more time together while learning a new skill. Signing up for a class also gives you something to do for at least a few nights depending on what you choose. You have unlimited options. Cooking isn't for everyone so you may like a salsa class and if dancing isn't your thing there is always the arts or even self-defence. As crazy as it may seem taking a class with a partner may be more fun than you can imagine.

Do a 5k Run Together

This is another unconventional date that may challenge you physically. Sadly we still aren't able to get the full 5k run experience that we are accustomed to annually. As a result of the pandemic, most charity runs have either been cancelled or are being held virtually. While this is the case it is still possible to run a 5k with a partner. You can sign up for a virtual run, this way you are also donating to charity or just running for the fun of it. Running is fun! Right? You and your partner can choose your course, whether that is your backyard, within your community or a park. Running with your partner means you can either challenge or motivate each other. You will both enjoy sharing this experience as well as the added benefit of keeping fit by being active.

Paintball Shooting

Looking for a fun-filled, adrenaline pumping and an all-around great time? Then look no further than paintball shooting. This date is not ideal for everyone as not everyone may enjoy getting paint on them. If I'm being honest those tiny balls hurt if you get hit. But the rush you feel trying to hit a target is exhilarating. Some parks offer tactical challenges, making it a great way to bond with your partner as you plan your attacks.

Go on a Road Trip

Road trips are fun. This needs no further explanation as to why this is a great idea for a date. If you drive just jump into your car and drive. You can find a new location or go somewhere that is special to you and your partner. The beauty of road trips is that you just need to go with the flow. Even if you don't drive a road trip can still be exciting. Pick an unknown destination and make an adventure out of finding your way there via public transportation. Travelling via public transportation in Jamaica is an adventure in its own right. You are guaranteed to end the day with a funny story or two.

Take a Rum tour

While other countries have wine tours Jamaica has rum tours. There are three main rum distilleries in Jamaica that offer guided tours; the Hampden Estate in Trelawny, the Appleton Estate in St. Elizabeth and the Worthy Park Estate in St. Catherine. A rum tour is a great date for rum lovers as it involves sampling products as well as a history lesson while touring the property. You also get to learn more about the process of making rum. You can also spend time getting to know each other better on the journey to the estate.

Conclusion

Dating does not have to be limited to a few activities. There are many unique ideas for dates you just have to be willing to try new things. Any activity can be considered a date as long you get to spend time with your person but there's an added benefit when it is a unique experience.
