Last month, I had the pleasure of dining at The Coppers a restaurant that opened its doors late last year. Formerly known as “Heathers Garden Restaurant”, the restaurant located on Haining Road in New Kingston was rebranded and renamed. The Coppers offers two dining experiences. The Copper Cellar is an intimate setting which offers fine dining, indoors surrounded by artwork and the Copper Garden is a more casual setting that allows you to dine under the stars.
The Copper Garden
Upon arrival, you will find a beautiful entryway leading to the bar and main dining area. A few more steps lead you to the entrance of The Cellar. We dined in The Copper Garden, and I didn't venture into The Cellar, so I cannot give details regarding The Cellar experience. The Coppers accepts reservations as well as walk-in customers, however, it is best to make a reservation if you want to guarantee the Garden experience. Walk-in customers are usually seated in the bar area if all the Garden tables are booked.
I was the first of my party to arrive and once I entered I was greeted by a pleasant host who showed me to my table. The rest of my party arrived shortly after and while waiting for our server we walked around the empty areas and took photos where we could. The Copper Garden gives you a taste of dining in a beautiful garden. It is charmingly decorated with potted plants, trees, bougainvillea plants and some garden-themed wall décor. The theme of the Copper Garden fits well with the name of the restaurant as there are hints of copper all around. There were several spots which made beautiful backdrops for photos. When it got darker the lighting transformed it into a romantic dining area. The Copper Garden is an ideal spot for a couple's date night, brunch with family and friends or even a work dinner.
The Meat of The Matter
To simply say the food at The Coppers was 'good' is an understatement. The food was spectacular! The Copper Garden's menu contains a variety of international dishes. From tantalizing seafood entrees and heavenly pasta to juicy burgers. Each menu item is specially catered to take you and your belly on a gastronomical adventure. A few of the menu items contain a Jamaican twist such as the Jerk chicken taco or the Helshire red snapper burger. Dining at the Copper Garden is a guaranteed way to unleash your inner foodie. Who doesn't want to tuck into a sumptuous meal while gazing up at the stars? Some items on the menu were on the pricier side, however, you could still enjoy a tasty meal on a budget. The portions were also great. Based on what we ordered, no one had any complaints about the portions we received.
Being the burger lover that I am I ordered the American smash burger. We also ordered the Jerk chicken alfredo, the Helshire red snapper burger and wings. Everything was amazing. I got to sample some of the jerk chicken alfredo and I was extremely impressed. I usually find that after a few bites alfredo can be cloying, however, I didn't get the sense that this would. This was later proven when my friend had the whole thing. The burger I chose shockingly did not come with bacon so I opted to add it. This came at an additional cost. I expected the additional charge but the actual price surprised me. My burger though...🤤. I'm getting hungry just thinking about it. It was delicious and the thick, juicy, perfectly cooked bacon strips kind of made up for the additional charge. Also, the wait time for our food was short.
Conclusion
My overall experience at The Coppers was amazing. The food was excellent, the customer service was exceptional and the ambience was great. The drinks did not disappoint either. My only qualm was the background music. In my opinion, it was a bit meh. I don't know if it was just on that particular day so they won't lose points in my view. I would dine at The Coppers again and I would love to experience the Copper Cellar.
