Broken Plate Jamaica – Restaurant Review

February 13, 2023

I decided to do Sunday brunch at Broken Plate for my birthday this year. This restaurant was at the top of my list of options in my search for the ideal brunch location. Located on the roof of the Progressive Shopping Centre on Barbican Road, Kingston, Broken Plate is a must-visit dining destination for foodies in search of seasonal dishes with a mix of local and foreign influences. The restaurant offers an indoor/outdoor, rooftop dining experience and the open-air terrace provides a tranquil setting.

Broken Plate

When I arrived, I was greeted by a friendly hostess, with whom I confirmed my reservation. My friends hadn't arrived yet, so I was seated in the bar area while a table was prepared. I had the choice between a table on the terrace or one close to the entrance. I was quite excited to dine on the terrace but the sun had other plans so I opted for the indoor table, this to the relief of my friends when they arrived.

With beautiful artwork and exquisite wall hangings adorning the walls, the ambience inside Broken Plate Jamaica is nothing short of breathtaking. The seating and soft lighting create a cosy atmosphere that is perfect for intimate dining experiences. On the terrace, the décor is equally welcoming. The dining space is surrounded by potted plants, which creates a serene and natural atmosphere. The combination of indoor and outdoor décor creates a perfect blend of sophistication, comfort, and natural beauty, making this restaurant the perfect place to enjoy a delicious meal.

Good Eats

When it comes to the food, Broken Plate truly shines. The menu features a wide variety of dishes that are sure to impress even the pickiest diner. From succulent ribeye steak to mouthwatering seafood dishes and divine pasta, every bite is packed with bold flavours that tantalize your taste buds. There are also a few vegan options available. Some items on the menu are on the pricier side, but the food tastes amazing!

Our entrees included the Broken Burger, coconut shrimp, BBQ ribs, chicken pasta, pork flatbread and a lot of fries. The Broken Burger was juicy and flavourful. Together the perfectly cooked patty, the savoury bacon and caramelized onions created a satisfyingly, delightful culinary experience. And, of course, no meal is complete without a refreshing drink, for which I had the Lychee mule. Broken Plate Jamaica does not offer blended drinks, however, this allowed me to try something new and I loved it.

Exceptional Service

In addition to the food, the service at Broken Plate is top-notch. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable, offering recommendations and suggestions for drinks. The dining experience at Broken Plate has a time limit of two hours so the wait time between when the orders were placed and when the food arrived was short. Only one dish took a while to get to our table.

To cap off the perfect meal, the restaurant offers a range of desserts, including chocolate chip bread pudding, cheesecake and a molten chocolate cake that are sure to satisfy your sweet tooth. Sadly we didn't sample the desserts but if the other dishes are any indication I am certain the dessert menu items are immaculate.

Conclusion

In conclusion, Broken Plate is a dining experience like no other. Its delectable dishes, warm atmosphere, and fantastic service make it the perfect place to indulge and unwind with friends. If you're in Kingston, be sure to stop by and savour the amazing flavours.
